Preamble

The prime function of the library is to execute, enrich and support the educational program of the university. The library provides a wide range of materials at various levels of sophistication with a diversity of application and different outlook. Advances in information and communication technologies (ICT) have significantly transformed the prospective of libraries to meet their objectives. Applications of computers, telecommunication networks and world-wide-web have entirely changed the means of acquiring, storing, processing, organizing, retrieving, and disseminating the information. The advantage of computer network is that it can retrieve virtually any kind of data including text, audio and even video. Technological advancements have made it possible for a user to gather information on his desktop even without physically entering the library.
 

About the Library

 

The University Library was set up in 2011 after the Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences was established in 2010. Since its inception, the library is serving to update the knowledge of teachers, scientists, students and staff members of the university to keep them informed about the field of their interest. The library has a unique collection of about 2350 hard bound books of various disciplines of veterinary and animal sciences and 694 e-books and e-journals of international and national repute. The library has led a vital role in the digitalization of Masters’ and Doctoral theses of different departments of the university.

OBJECTIVES

 

1.     To provide library services and resources in multiple formats to meet the users’ needs.
2.     To educate users about the library’s services and resources.
3.     To increase collaboration with students, faculty, staff, and the society.
4.     To foster a learning environment that encourages investigation, allows for independent thinking,             and develops effective study habits for students, teachers and staff.
5.     To provide an opportunity for students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to           access library resources.
6.     To provide materials that support the curriculum, student interests, and staff needs.

A library represents the University’s academic aspirations and the first source for information and learning where faculty and students find out the resources essential for their learning, teaching and research with the insight that the library is vital.
