Regional Centre, LUVAS, G.T.Road, Uchani (Karnal)


Regional Centre has been established under the able guidance of Worthy Vice-Chancellor, Major Gen. (Dr) Shri Kant Sharma SM, VSM (Retd), LUVAS recently in year 2014 by upgrading the Veterinary Unit Substation TVCC which was created by merging Parasitological Research Station, Disease Investigation Laboratory and TVCC sub centre of erstwhile CCS, HAU, Hisar in June 2004. Regional Centre has two well established units namely TVCC and Disease diagnostic laboratory with following objectives.
  1. To provide diagnostic and treatment facilities for various diseases of domestic animals of the region including disease surveillance.
  2. To study epidemiology, pathobiology, diagnosis and treatment of parasitic diseases of domestic animals of eastern Haryana, and.
  3. To create additional facilities for internship training of B.V.Sc & A.H. programme

Major Achievements

  • Clinical and Diagnostic
    • Total 16835 OPD cases (Medicine, Surgery , Gynaecology) were attended and treated successfully at Rergional Centre, Uchani, Karnal during 1st July 2015 to 30th  June, 2016.
    • In the diagnostic laboratory, total 7216 blood samples from large and small animals were examined for complete blood profile and presence of hemoprotozoan infections.
    • A sum of 2362 serum samples were screened on fully automatic biochemistry analyzer for diagnosis of various metabolic and deficiency diseases.
    • Total 1490 faecal samples were examined for the  presence of eggs of paramphistomes ,  strongyles , Oocysts of Balantidium coli , Moniezia spp., Trichuris spp., Fasciola etc. 
    • Urine samples from 372  animals were tested for  haematuria , haemoglobinuria, proteinuria, sugar , ketone bodies , Billirubin, Urobilinogen and  Pus cell 
    • Milk samples brought from 2611 dairy animals suspected to be suffering from mastitis were examined with California mastitis test (CMT) and culture sensitivity tests (CST).
  • Research Achievements
    • Monoclonal based Te-LAT being field oriented, simple and quick to perform, highly sensitive, economical and free from cross reactions is recommended for field diagnosis of trypanosomosis in animals to reach at a conclusion to undertake specific therapy.
    • Direct blood PCR for diagnosis of Theileria annulata and Trypanosoma evansi has been developed. This is highly sensitive, specific and rapid diagnostic tool as there is no need of DNA isolation from the whole blood.
    • Multiplex PCR assay for simultaneous detection of haemoprotozoan infections viz., T.annulata, T. evansi, Babesia bigemina and Anaplasma marginale in bovine has been developed.
    • The sero-surveillance studies in buffaloes, cows and goats especially with a history of abortion in last trimester of pregnancy revealed high incidence of brucellosis. Livestock owners are being regularly advised for the prevention and control of brucellosis.
