About Department

The Department of Livestock Products Technology came into existence in 1977. Department imparts teaching in undergraduate, post graduate, doctorate degree and diploma (DVLT & VLDD) programmes.Department has two sub-disciplines namely: meat technology and dairy technology in which UG and PG teaching are imparted. Along with teaching, the department is also  engaged in research and extension activities. Research areas primarily revolve around the development of value added, further processed and convenient meat and milk products and their shelf life extension, as well as reduction of  fat, cholesterol, salt content and incorporation of dietary fiber and bioactive compounds. As far as extension is concerned, the department is involved in skill development/promotion of entrepreneurship through professional training in milk and meat processing. Apart from this department is having a fully functional Experimental dairy plant, where standardisation, pasteurisation, packaging, chilling, and storage of milk is done on a regular basis.
