About

The Department Animal Genetics and Breeding has been maintaining Beetal and Jakhrana breeds of goat at LUVAS campus. Total two state research schemes are ongoing at goat farm with following objectives:

  1. To develop superior germplasm of Beetal and jakhrana goats
  2. Identification of prolific doe and buck and their multiplication through selective mating.
  3. To evaluate the performance in growth and reproduction traits.
  4. To optimize the management system to have frequent kidding.
  5. Dissemination of superior germplasm to the farmers.

Beetal goat

  • Current herd strength is 120.
  • The average birth weight is 2.76 kg.
  • The average weaning and six month weights are 11.29 and 19.63 kg, respectively.
  • The average adult weights of male and female are 47 and 30 kg, respectively
  • The age and weight at first kidding is 18 months and 35 kg, respectively.
  • The kidding % and Twinning % are 90 and 66%, respectively.

  • The average birth weight is 2.89 kg.
  • The average weaning and six month weights are 11.86 and 20.04 kg, respectively.
  • The average adult weights of male and female are 45 and 30 kg, respectively
  • The age and weight at first kidding is 18 months and 35 kg, respectively.
  • The kidding % and Twinning % are 90 and 43%, respectively.
