THRUST AREAS OF RESEARCH & FUTURE VISION

Thrust Research Areas of the Department Aligned with ICAR, ANRF & SDGs are as follows:

  1. Pathology of Mixed Infections in Livestock and Poultry: - This research area enhances understanding of complex infectious disease processes affecting livestock and poultry across organ systems using advanced molecular and immunohistochemical techniques.

ANRF Mission Alignment: It supports ANRF’s priority of health, disease preparedness research and translational science, with potential translational outcomes relevant to disease mitigation and animal husbandry improvements.

SDG Alignment:

  • SDG 2: Zero Hunger (by enhancing animal health to support food security)
  • SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being (through improved disease diagnosis and control strategies)
  1. Ameliorative Studies of Probiotics / Herbal Preparations / Nano-Formulations against Infectious and Non-Infectious Diseases: Research on probiotics, herbal medicinal plants, ayurvedic preparations, and their nano-formulations aims to develop effective alternatives to conventional antibiotics for infectious and non-infectious diseases. This area explores alternative and sustainable therapeutic approaches to reduce reliance on antibiotics and address antibiotic resistance, which is a major One Health concern.

ANRF Mission Alignment: It is in align with ANRF’s emphasis on interdisciplinary, innovative research and indigenous knowledge-based solutions that can yield high societal impact beyond traditional methods.

SDG Alignment:

  • SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being (by addressing antimicrobial resistance)
  • SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production (through alternative therapies that promote sustainability)
  • Pathology and Diagnosis of Neoplastic Conditions in Livestock and Poultry: -Research in animal oncology using advanced diagnostics contributes to scientific knowledge, early detection, and improved management of neoplasia in animals, which also has comparative and translational implications for broader health research.
